Prevalence of Group A Beta Hemolytic Streptococcus Related Pharyngitis in Pakistan

Objective: To identify the prevalence of group A beta hemolytic streptococcus related pharyngitis in Pakistan. Study Design: Retrospective Place and Duration Study: Department ENT Head & Neck Surgery, Liaquat College Medicine Dentistry, Karachi from 1st July 2021 to 31st March 2022. Methodology: One hundred seventy patients who showed symptoms were enrolled. Two throat swabs taken where first was used for rapid a assessment. In cases negative testing second swab placed on 5% sheep blood agar plates at temperature 35°C with anaerobic conditions two days. Beta colonies checked. On sub-culturing pyrrolidonyl-arylamidase test applied. disc >15mm inhibited growth around bacitracin considered as positive β-hemolytic. Result: The present study found that mean age 19.5±4.3 years. There 51.7% males while 48.2% females this study. 11.17% those significant association between modified Centor scoring assuming score increases 0-3 risk also surges.
